Mary's Nursery
Orchids are now grown is such mass quantity that there is frantic
competition to empty commercial shade houses and move inventory. Amidst this
fast trade and bargain seeking orchid buyers, Mary's Orchids seems a virtual
paradise. Hidden away on a back street of West Lake Worth, Florida, the exotic
plants literally tumble off overcrowded benches in a rambling collection of
shade houses. A jungle of countless Vandas, their
roots the width of thumb fingers intertwine while their flowers compete for
light. Dendrobiums stand four feet and taller, while a sea of Phaleanopsis wave
with the breeze. The Cattleya and Lealia wing is overpowering with scent and
color. Oncidiums, Intergenerics, Militonia, and a long list of Peruvian species
diversify the collection. Mary makes an annual sojourn with the sole purpose of
strengthening depth of her collection, thus, species from Costa Rica, Thailand,
and Peru are featured.
An orchid enthusiast is guaranteed a homecoming
at Mary's as they derive pleasure choosing the best quality plant at a
reasonable price. The nursery is especially helpful to the novice as the
requirements of each orchid can be explained and all the necessary growing
supplies are readily available.
